Wayne Boland
Welcome to my portfolio! Upon moving to Colorado in 2002, I discovered a passion for the great outdoors, photography and creating in general. As an engineer by trade, photography has allowed me to continue to tap into my creative side and step away from the grind of my career in technology.

Adventures of Outdoor Photography!
The thrill of getting outdoors, experiencing nature in all types of weather, is both the challenge and reward of outdoor photography. A lot goes into collecting the images that you will see on this site, but for me the memories are the most precious.
Every adventure has something new to offer, even when revisiting a location for the 20th time. The time, place, weather and people bring something new on every outing. Perhaps one of my favorite things about these times is sharing these experiences with friends; especially when they are experiencing something new for the first time.
I love to create!
For me the process doesn't stop once the picture is taken and posted to the web. Making something tangible out of my work is truly exciting for me. Creating something unique, that you can actually touch, shows texture when the light hits it, and can be displayed for your enjoyment is what it's all about.
I have invested in the equipment to control my production from start to finish; from print to frame, I enjoy the entire process; leading to some truly unique pieces.
Tools of the Trade!
I often get asked about the type of equipment I use in my photography. Here's a non-exhaustive list :)
Weather: I love getting out in unique conditions. Weather planning is probably the most important part of outdoor photography. For that, I use an app called The Light Watch. This app is specifically designed for outdoor photographers, and once you learn all it has to offer, it will enable you to get into the conditions you want to achieve a specific shot.
Camera & Equipment: Over the years I've used both Nikon and Sony Digital SLR cameras and lenses. My current setup is a Sony Alpha 7rIV. I was a bit skeptical when the mirrorless systems came out, but I've become a huge fan of these systems now. The image quality is excellent, allowing me to create monster prints, and the weight in the pack is truly appreciated :)
Post Processing: Images out of the camera never match the mind's eye. If you want to create something that matches your vision and feeling of the scene, work after capture is required. I've taken the time to invest in learning Adobe's system of Photography tools, which include Adobe Lightroom, and Photoshop. I also have found various plug-ins and tools that extend their capabilities to be a huge asset. If you want to learn photoshop, there are a great deal of online resources available. Probably the most comprehensive instruction on post processing that I have found is from Sean Bagshaw.
